Atlanta announces its 2013-2014 Broadway season!

Two young Mormons and a pride of lions are making their way to Atlanta. The 2013-2014 Broadway season will feature the Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon as well as the blockbuster smash The Lion King. The season lineup will also include Ghost, Once, American Idiot and Evita. All shows will play the Fox Theatre.

The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards, will open on January 28, 2014 and close on February 9. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon follows two young Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda, who soon discover their training did not quite prepare them for the world outside of Salt Lake City.

Disney’s beloved animated film roars into a new dimension on stage in the Broadway phenomenon that is The Lion King. Brought to life by Tony-winning director Julie Taymor, the musical features a score by Elton John and Tim Rice, including their Oscar-winning songs “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” and “The Circle of Life.” The Tony-winning musical will play from April 10, 2014 through April 27.

The romance of Ghost will touch a whole new generation as the story of the 1990 movie comes to the stage in a brand new musical. The story follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam’s untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death. The musical spectacle will play from November 5, 2013 through November 10.

Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Once brings the touching tale of two Dublin musicians to life onstage. Based on the Oscar-winning 2006 film, Once features an ensemble of actors who play their own instruments onstage. The musical focuses on a street musician who’s about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. Featuring the award-winning song “Falling Slowly,” Once will open on March 4, 2014 and run through March 9.

The hit musical American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi platinum album, the show features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Holiday.” The rock musical will open during the week of April 28.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed musical Evita will tango into Atlanta from June 3, 2014 through June 8. Based on Argentina’s historic icon Eva Peron, the musical tells the story of the young woman who used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the country’s slums to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Evita tells Peron’s unforgettable true story, while featuring some of musical theater’s most famous songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."
